Celebrating our first anniversary at our new location!

 
Harleys: The Store for Men in Shorewood, Wisconsin is pleased to announce its semi-annual Trade In and Trade Up Event on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 23, 24 & 25th. For three days only, shoppers are invited to clean out their closets and trade in their gently used garments and accessories to benefit Diva/Divo. For every item donated, customers can then purchase a like item from Harleys at 20% savings.

 
A receipt will be issued for all tax-deductible donations. During the event, all major credit cards are accepted and sleeve and bottom alterations are included (other alterations as posted). Special orders are not included during this special event.

Event hours: Thur., September 23, 10-8, Fri., September 24, 10-6 and Sat., September 25, 9-5.

“The Gathering”  WJMR Jammin 98.3 is sponsoring DIVA/DIVO’s participation at The Gathering this year.“The Gathering: An Interactive Day for the Mind, Body and Soul” is a unique one day experience tailored to Milwaukee’s African American women.  Jammin’ 98.3 is proud to host the 8th annual event on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM at the Regency Ballroom in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Milwaukee.   Once again the mission of “The Gathering” is to inspire and guide the attendees on their journey to personal and professional advancement. DIVA/DIVO will be participating in  this year’s Roosevelt Middle School of the Arts Annual Celebration of African-American Culture Event which will be held on February 25th at the school, located at 800 West Walnut Street, Milwaukee WI 53205. This annual celebration showcases the extraordinary talents of the students and celebrates the deep and vibrant culture of Milwaukee.  For more information please call Eileen Scherer, Artistic Director or Alida LaCosse, Choir director at 267-8800.

 DIVA/DIVO Opens a New Location!   Diva/Divo is happy to announce that it has formed a wonderful new collaboration with Multicultural Community Services on Milwaukee’s North Side.  Our two organizations will now be working in partnership to help meet the needs of our shared clients. While keeping our South Side location at Christ Church in Bay View, Diva/Divo now has a second location making accessibility to our services easier for North Side men and women in need.  The North Side location address is 5161 N. Hopkins St.  The referral process and criteria will remain the same and if you have any questions please contact the Director Michele Billingsley at michele@divadivo.org.

DIVA puts on Fashion Show!  DIVA participated in the “Ready. Set. Work. Women’s Job Seminar” by putting on a fashion show. All of the fashions came from the DIVA/DIVO clothes closet and the models were volunteers and actual clients. The event was held on November 20th at the Manpower, Inc. Headquarters building. It was a collaboration of several organizations; Manpower, United Way, Sojouner Family Peace Center and the Allstate Foundation.  

 

                                    

 

Fundraisers

$$$  Cholive raised $100 for DIVA/DIVO by donating a percentage of their sales from November 30 – December 5th. They also held a clothing drive at the corporate office and donated a number of wonderful items that will make many people very happy. They will continue to hold clothing drives for us. $$$  Jenna Shultz, owner of Flair Ltd., located at 407 E. Buffalo St. hosted a Fashion Night out 2009 where 10% of the night’s sales were donated to DIVA/DIVO. They have committed to working with us in the future. Thank you Flaire. 

Clothing Drives

Les Cisauex Salon on Milwaukee’s east side is having an on-going clothes drive. They have collected a wonderful assortment of clothing, shoes and accessories for us and continue to do so. Schedule an appointment to get a fabulous haircut and color and bring along that one great outfit in your closet that you no longer use to donate to DIVA or DIVO. Les Ciseaux was voted one of the top ten for hair color in WISN/Channel 12 A-List. check it out at their website: www.wisn.com
